FOUR SEASONS PRESCHOOL OF GROVELAND

Toddler/Twos Teacher

Reports to the Director

Position Summary

The Toddler/Twos Teacher provides attentive care and a safe, warm, developmentally appropriate learning environment for children in the toddler and two-year-old classroom. The teacher supports each child’s emerging language, independence, social-emotional skills, and curiosity through responsive caregiving and purposeful, play-based experiences.

Primary Responsibilities Care and supervision

· Maintain active supervision of assigned children at all times, including during classroom activities, transitions, meals, rest, outdoor play, and toileting. Keep children accounted for and follow applicable Florida staff-to-child ratios and Four Seasons procedures.

· Build predictable, welcoming routines. Greet children and families warmly, support children as they separate and join the group, and respond promptly and calmly to children’s cues, distress, and individual needs.

· Provide attentive personal care, including diapering or toileting support, handwashing, wiping noses, changing soiled clothing, and helping children build age-appropriate self-help skills. Follow required sanitation and safe diapering procedures.

· Supervise meals and snacks closely. Follow each child’s documented allergy, dietary, and care information; support safe eating; and model manners, self-feeding, and positive mealtime routines.

· Maintain a clean, organized classroom. Check learning materials and equipment for safety, follow cleaning and disinfection procedures, and promptly report hazards, injuries, illness concerns, or needed repairs.

· Use calm, respectful, developmentally appropriate guidance. Help children name feelings, practice safe behavior, communicate needs, take turns, and begin solving peer conflicts. Follow school behavior and incident-reporting procedures.

Learning and Development

· Plan and provide engaging, play-based experiences that support language and early literacy, social-emotional growth, physical development, early math, creativity, sensory exploration, and independence.

· Talk, sing, read, and play with children throughout the day. Model and expand children’s words and gestures, encourage them to express needs and ideas, and provide meaningful opportunities for conversation and peer interaction.

· Prepare lesson plans and classroom experiences at least one month in advance, as requested by the Director. Keep plans responsive to children’s interests, developmental levels, strengths, and support needs.

· Observe children’s participation and progress, complete assigned screenings or assessment records, and share developmental questions or concerns promptly with the Director.

Communication and teamwork

· Maintain accurate, objective, timely, and confidential attendance, health, incident, classroom, and family-communication records as assigned.

· Build respectful partnerships with families through warm daily communication and scheduled conferences. Share classroom updates professionally and refer sensitive concerns or developmental questions to the Director.

· Work cooperatively with the Director, other teachers, assistants, students, and volunteers. When assigned, orient and guide classroom assistants or volunteers and communicate classroom needs clearly.

· Attend staff meetings, required training, and school events as scheduled. Communicate supply, equipment, and classroom support needs to the Director.

Qualifications and Florida Requirements

Meet Florida DCF screening and eligibility requirements for child care personnel before working with children, and maintain required screening status.

Meet applicable Florida child care training requirements. Personnel generally begin the required introductory training within the first 90 days in the child care industry and complete it within DCF timelines. The 40-hour training includes developmentally appropriate practices and an Infant and Toddler Appropriate Practices course unless an applicable exemption or approved alternative applies.

Complete required early-literacy training within the applicable timeframe, and complete required universal precautions/exposure-plan education before beginning work and annually thereafter.

Complete other required safety training within applicable deadlines, including fire-extinguisher training. Maintain required annual in-service training and keep training documentation current.

Maintain current Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification as a Four Seasons Preschool employment requirement. Classroom coverage must also meet Florida licensing requirements.

Prior toddler or preschool classroom experience and an active Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC), Child Development Associate (CDA), or equivalent credential are preferred.
