Infant Toddler Assistant Teacher

Position Summary

The Infant-Toddler Assistant Teacher at Hostos Children’s Center, Inc. partners primarily with the Infant-Toddler Teacher to create the learning environment inside of their classroom. The Infant-Toddler Assistant Teacher delivers instruction under the guidance of their Infant-Toddler Teacher to ensure nurturing activities, interactions and environment. The Infant-Toddler Assistant Teacher assists in the adoption of curriculum to encourage active exploration, physical, cognitive and emotional and social development. The Assistant Teacher may be assigned to various classrooms for coverage throughout the day as deemed necessary for the operation of the Program.

Duties

● Assists Group Teacher with ongoing assessment of children through appropriate assessment tools; including utilization of Teaching Strategies Gold.

● Showcases children’s work and progress in displays and individualized portfolios.

● Assists with the maintenance of children’s records including attendance, health logs and incident reports.

● Supervises children during program activities which include, but is not limited to field trips, breakfast, lunch, nap, bathroom, and snack.

● Reports to supervisor any signs or symptoms of suspected child abuse and/or neglect, injuries, or illness.

Completes daily heath/wellness checks of children at arrival and dismissal, and completes required screenings form.

● Collaborates with the Infant-Toddler Teacher and other instructional staff to ensure the classroom environment meets ITERS and QualitystarsNY standards.

● Aids the Lead Teacher in developing age and ability appropriate lesson plans.

● Keeps accurate and organized records for each child enrolled in your classroom, including the Brightwheel App to record children’s activity throughout the day.

● Checks work email daily.

● Communicates well with Administration and Co-workers.

Experience

• 1-2 years prior experience working with young children in daycare, preschool, or childcare settings is highly preferred
• Bi-lingual a plus
• High School required, Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Infant/Toddler CDA, a plus
• Complies with all DOHMH requirements and other agency requirements necessary for the operation of the Center.
• Creation and on-going maintenance of Aspire account
• Knowledge of child development principles and early childhood education practices
• Familiarity with mandated reporting laws and child safety regulations
• Certification in first aid, CPR, or pediatric first aid is desirable but not required; training can be provided for the right candidate
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, and team members

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
