POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Teacher at Hostos Children’s Center, Inc. helps to implement instructional activities to prepare children for school readiness. The Assistant Teacher partners primarily with the Group Teacher to create the learning environment inside of their classroom. The Assistant Teacher delivers instruction under the guidance of their Group Teacher, and provides childcare support to aid in the holistic oversight and development of children. The Assistant Teacher may be assigned to various classrooms for coverage throughout the day as deemed necessary for the operation of the Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Collaborates with the Pre-School Group Teacher and other instructional staff to ensure the classroom environment meets ITERS, ECERS, and Quality Stars standards.

· Team teaches and cross collaborates with other teachers and staff.

· Assists with the creation of policies in their classroom/learning spaces which creates the learning environment, encompassing classroom management and arranging for needed resources to produce desired learning outcomes.

· Aids their assigned Group Teacher in producing developmentally appropriate lesson plans.

· Assists Group Teacher with ongoing assessment of children through appropriate assessment tools; including utilization of Teaching Strategies Gold.

· Showcases children’s work and progress in displays and individualized portfolios.

· Assists with the maintenance of children’s records including attendance, health logs and incident reports.

· Supervises children during program activities which include, but is not limited to field trips, breakfast, lunch, nap, bathroom, and snack.

· Reports to supervisor any signs or symptoms of suspected child abuse and/or neglect, injuries, or illness.

· Completes daily heath/wellness checks of children at arrival and dismissal, and completes required screenings form.

· Adheres to safety and evacuation plans to escort children to safety in the case of drills and emergency situations.

· Participates in Hostos Children’s Center parent outreach initiatives.

· Checks work email daily.

REQUIREMENTS

· Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a CDA in Infant/Toddler and/or Preschool

Complies with all DOHMH requirements and other agency requirements necessary for the operation of the Center

· Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth.

· Creation and on-going maintenance of Aspire account.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
