Suwannee Valley 4Cs is the Head Start and Early Head Start grantee in Columbia, Hamilton, Lafayette and Suwannee counties. Established in 1985, we are a private, non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of low-income children and their families by offering comprehensive early childhood development services.

Teacher Mentor

Work Schedule: M-F, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

Hourly Rate: $16.86

Basic Function:

Provide guidance and support to Education Staff; ensure quality classroom operations.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree preferred in Early Childhood or related field. Staff Credential with five years’ experience (relevant age), required
  • Child Care Training (Parts I & II – 40 hours) requirement pursuant to Chapter 65C-22
  • Must have 5 Hour Literacy Course as required by DCF
  • Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome training as required by DCF to complete at Orientation/within 30 days of hire
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in providing educational technical assistance preferred
  • General record keeping experience
  • Knowledge of various computer applications including word processing
  • Must have access to dependable transportation with valid current liability insurance and a valid driver’s license
  • Must pass physical and Department of Children and Families background screening requirements
  • Must have current First Aid/Pediatric CPR certification

Job Description:

· Provide meaningful, direct on-the-spot mentoring and guidance to education staff regarding:

- responsive caregiving

- effective teaching practices

- well organized learning environments (developmentally appropriate schedules, lesson plans and learning experiences that support effective curriculum implementation and that promote healthy development and children’s skill growth aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, including for children with disabilities

- quality program operations and compliance with program policies and procedures

· During site visits, role model as necessary and demonstrate positive interactions and make recommendations for strategies to integrate individual and group teaching practices that support children’s interest, development and learning

· Facilitate the completion of the Curriculum Fidelity Checklist observation for Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms in the Fall, Winter and Spring; and provide follow-up support, training, and feedback to ensure continuous improvement of curricula implementation between observation cycles; meet with Site Coordinator to discuss visit, as necessary; ensure appropriate follow-up and communication with management staff

· Document all classroom observations, meetings and curriculum fidelity follow-up utilizing the TM Observation/Meeting Form and the Curriculum Fidelity Follow-Up Form for each classroom observation/follow-up visit

· Maintain ongoing communication with Site Coordinators and Quality Assurance Teacher Mentor

· Work directly with new teachers to complete the New Hire Training Checklist; collaborate with Education Coaches, Site Coordinator and the Quality Assurance Lead Teacher Mentor to ensure all trainings are completed as required

· Assist with curriculum, screenings and ongoing assessments as needed

· Assist in maintaining classroom ratios as requested; ensure schedule is adjusted to meet site hours and needs

· Assist in the planning and presentation of in-service activities throughout the school year including Summer Institute

· Give input regarding needed areas of training for center staff and parents

· Complete required reports and forms in a timely manner

· Become familiar with program goals, objectives and philosophy
