Preschool Pre-K Assistant Teacher

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must have or complete CPR/First Aid, TB test, Medical Report, and DCD Criminal Background Check.
• Must have or complete Recognizing and Reporting Child Maltreatment training.
• Must be willing to complete additional trainings as necessary.
• It is preferred that teachers have one year of experience in a center or two years in a family child care home, or 20 clock hours of training in child development within first 6 months of employment.
• It is preferred that teachers hold or enroll in coursework for North Carolina Early Childhood Credential within first six months of employment.
• A basic love for children and commitment to co-workers is essential.
• Must be able to work one evening in afternoon care

Job Description

• Plan and execute an educational program of age-appropriate activities for children in care; identify each child’s individual capabilities and needs
• Create a nurturing, learning environment
• Ensure the welfare, health, and safety of the children
• Organize and maintain the classroom, activity areas, materials and supplies. Keep the Director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired and replaced.
• Maintain constant supervision of children
• Take daily attendance and keep up with all required reports pertaining to the group
• Make the most of your time and abilities
• Establish and maintain effective and professional communication with parents  Build good communications with other staff to create a professional atmosphere
• Attend pre-service and in-service training as needed
• Keep the Director informed of any classroom problems
• Know/learn to recognize symptoms of child abuse/neglect and understand duty to report suspected abuse/neglect
• Cooperate in maintaining a happy environment in which each child may come to know his freedom and limitations.
• Be firm but kind with each child and treat each child consistently
• Give each child the attention needed to assure his/her best welfare. (This relates to eating, toileting, play, crafts, health, safety, etc.)
• Work with Lead Teacher to keep classroom clean and orderly, throughout the day and after the children are gone. (This includes floors, tables, toys, etc.)
• Abide by all policies of the preschool.
• Work with Lead Teacher on bulletin boards, newsletters and other printed materials.
• Maintain a professional appearance at all times, both in dress and hygiene.
• Attend any classes, workshops and other training opportunities as necessary.

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
