Lead Teacher – 7-Point Education Standard

The Learning Spot is seeking experienced, dependable, and passionate Lead Teachers to join our team. We are looking for early childhood professionals who meet or are qualified to meet the North Carolina 7-point education standard for a rated child care center.

Our teachers are responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where children can learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the daily operation of an assigned classroom.
• Provide active supervision and maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities.
• Support children's social-emotional, cognitive, language, physical, and creative development.
• Use play, exploration, and hands-on learning to support children's development.
• Observe children and document developmental progress.
• Maintain accurate classroom records, attendance, lesson plans, and required documentation.
• Maintain required North Carolina staff-to-child ratios and group sizes.
• Communicate professionally with parents and guardians.
• Work collaboratively with Assistant Teachers and other center staff.
• Provide appropriate direction and support to classroom staff.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom.
• Follow North Carolina child care rules and The Learning Spot policies and procedures.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and center events.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and center operations.

7-Point Education Standard

Applicants must meet the applicable North Carolina education and experience requirements to be counted toward the 7-point education standard.

The 7-point standard requires education and experience beyond the basic NC Early Childhood Credential/EDU 119 pathway.

Qualifying pathways may include applicable combinations of:

• A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with the required early childhood experience.
• A.A.S. degree in another field with the required early childhood education/child development coursework and verified experience.
• Applicable NC Early Care and Education Professional Scale certification and required experience.
• Other education and experience pathways recognized by the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education.

EDU 119 / NC Early Childhood Credential alone does not satisfy the full 7-point education standard.

Required Qualifications

• Meet applicable North Carolina Lead Teacher requirements.
• Meet the applicable education and experience requirements for the 7-point education standard.
• Have the NC Early Childhood Credential (NCECC), an approved equivalent, or meet applicable requirements to obtain it.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain as required.
• Meet North Carolina background check requirements.
• Previous Lead Teacher experience preferred.
• Strong communication, classroom management, and teamwork skills.
• Dependable, professional, patient, and passionate about working with children.

Infant Lead Teacher Requirements

For applicants working in an infant classroom:

• ITS-SIDS training is required in accordance with applicable North Carolina requirements.
• Must maintain current ITS-SIDS training as required.
• Infant experience preferred.
• Must understand and follow safe sleep practices and infant supervision requirements.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained as applicable.

School-Age Lead Teacher Requirements

For applicants working with school-age children:

• BSAC (Basic School-Age Care) training is required in accordance with applicable North Carolina requirements.
• Must maintain required BSAC training.
• Experience working with school-age children preferred.
• Ability to plan age-appropriate activities that support social, emotional, academic, recreational, and developmental needs.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

• A.A.S. or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• NC Early Care and Education Professional Scale certification.
• Previous Lead Teacher experience.
• Experience working in a licensed child care center.
• Experience developing and implementing curriculum.
• Infant, toddler, preschool, or school-age classroom experience.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Current ITS-SIDS certification for infant positions.
• Current BSAC training for school-age positions.
