Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning activities for children ages 3–5.
  • Support the goals and expectations of Indiana’s On My Way Pre-K program and kindergarten-readiness standards.
  • Provide engaging instruction in early literacy, letter recognition, phonics, early writing, numbers, counting, shapes, colors, science, and social-emotional development.
  • Lead small-group and whole-group learning activities, circle time, learning centers, art, sensory experiences, dramatic play, and hands-on activities.
  • Maintain a structured daily classroom routine while allowing children opportunities for exploration, creativity, and independence.
  • Use positive guidance and age-appropriate behavior-management strategies to support children’s self-regulation and social skills.
  • Observe and document children’s developmental progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Assist with assessments, portfolios, classroom documentation, and other records required for the Pre-K program.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding children’s progress, behavior, classroom activities, and developmental milestones.
  • Support children with developmental delays, special needs, or individualized learning needs through appropriate classroom accommodations and early-intervention strategies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, incident, meal, classroom, and developmental records as required.
  • Assist children with toileting, hygiene, meals, rest time, transitions, and other daily routines when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
  • Follow all daycare policies, licensing regulations, On My Way Pre-K requirements, confidentiality standards, and mandated-reporting requirements.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including supervision requirements, emergency procedures, universal precautions, CPR, and first aid.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, professional-development training, and classroom preparation activities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience working with children ages 3–5 in a preschool, childcare, Head Start, Pre-K, or similar early childhood setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and kindergarten-readiness skills.
  • Ability to create and follow developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
  • Strong classroom-management and positive behavior-guidance skills.
  • Ability to engage young children through hands-on, interactive learning experiences.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, patient, and professional.
  • Comfortable communicating with families regarding children's development and classroom expectations.
  • Knowledge of early literacy, early math, social-emotional learning, and child-development practices.
  • Ability to complete required classroom documentation accurately and on time.
  • Must meet Indiana childcare licensing and On My Way Pre-K staff requirements.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within the required timeframe.
  • Early childhood education coursework, CDA, Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or other qualifying early childhood credential is preferred.

What We’re Looking For
