Montessori Preschool Lead Teacher

Dragonfly Montessori School is seeking a lead teacher for our preschool room (ages 3-6). Candidate would be responsible for working together with owner and assistant teachers to implement Montessori curriculum, create lesson plans, and present shelf materials, as well as monitor students during work and play and contribute to our warm, supportive, and calm classroom atmosphere. Prior Montessori experience is not required, but we prefer someone detail oriented and team spirited who is interested in and willing to learn about Montessori philosophy. Full time, 8:30 to 4:30pm.

Co-Lead Teacher Responsibilities

• Work together and communicate with owner and assistant teachers regarding all aspects of the children's care and classroom management
• Create lesson plans and lead circle time, and well as create, refresh, and rotate shelf activities
• Document students’ daily experiences to provide accurate communication with families
• Maintain an environment that is clean, organized and safe for all children
• Willing and able to be hands-on in all aspects of care (bathroom assistance, first aid, etc).
• Assist with snack and lunch duties, including food preparation and washing dishes
• Assist and ensure safety during outdoor play, and organize games as needed
• Plan and implement activities for aftercare program
• Ensure high quality of childcare by following all licensing guidelines and school standards, upholding Montessori teaching methods and philosophy, as well as adhering to all company policies
• Be responsible and flexible for all other duties as assigned, including working with toddlers if needed

Requirements

• Knowledge of child development stages and age-appropriate learning techniques
• Understanding of health, hygiene, and safety standards for children
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and co-teachers in the room
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage classroom activities effectively
• Patience, empathy, and ability to handle challenging behaviors and tricky situations constructively
• Have a strong knowledge of developmental needs of young children and appropriate behavior strategies that meet those needs
• At least 2 years of experience working with preschool aged children in a classroom setting (not nannying or babysitting)
• All mandated clearances and trainings, or willingness to obtain them (reimbursed by school)
• Ability to lift 30 lbs
