We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and highly organized Lead Pre-K Teacher to guide our oldest preschool students through one of the most important transitions in their early education journey: preparing for Kindergarten!

This is not simply a childcare position. We are looking for an educator who understands child development, takes ownership of classroom learning outcomes, and is intentional about helping every child grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

About Our Pre-K Classroom

Our Pre-K classroom is designed to bridge the gap between traditional preschool and elementary education.

While learning through play remains an important part of our philosophy, our Pre-K students are also developing the skills, routines, and independence necessary to thrive in a Kindergarten classroom.

We are looking for a teacher who understands how to balance developmentally appropriate play-based learning with structured instruction, clear expectations, and measurable developmental progress.

Key Responsibilities

Kindergarten Readiness & Academic Instruction

• Implement and expand upon the Bee Kids curriculum to provide engaging, purposeful learning experiences.
• Develop lessons that promote letter recognition, phonemic awareness, letter sounds, early reading readiness, and emergent writing skills.
• Guide children in writing and recognizing their names, developing proper pencil grip, and strengthening fine motor skills.
• Teach foundational mathematics, including counting, number recognition, patterns, shapes, sorting, and early mathematical reasoning.
• Help children learn important personal information, including their full name, address, and parent or guardian phone number.
• Assess individual student progress and adapt instruction to meet varying developmental needs.
• Incorporate hands-on activities, creative projects, and meaningful play to reinforce academic concepts.

Social, Emotional & Behavioral Development

• Prepare children for the expectations and routines of a Kindergarten classroom.
• Teach and model independence, responsibility, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
• Help children develop listening skills, the ability to follow multi-step directions, and confidence participating in group instruction.
• Foster positive peer relationships, cooperation, conflict resolution, and respectful communication.
• Establish consistent classroom expectations and use positive, developmentally appropriate behavior guidance.

Classroom Leadership & Organization

• Maintain a structured, organized, engaging, and welcoming learning environment.
• Develop and implement daily schedules that balance academic instruction, play, movement, creativity, and rest.
• Demonstrate strong classroom management skills while maintaining a nurturing and encouraging atmosphere.
• Prepare materials and lesson plans in advance to ensure intentional, productive learning experiences.
• Maintain accurate student records, developmental observations, and progress documentation.
• Follow all Tennessee childcare licensing regulations and Bee Kids policies and procedures.

Family Communication & School Collaboration

• Build positive, professional relationships with parents and guardians.
• Communicate regularly about student progress, developmental milestones, and areas for continued growth.
• Partner with families to support learning and independence at home.
• Work collaboratively with the Bee Kids leadership team to evaluate classroom goals and student readiness.
• Assist in planning, organizing, and preparing for our annual Preschool Graduation Celebration in May, helping create a meaningful milestone for our students and families.

Qualifications

Required:

• Previous experience teaching in a structured preschool, Pre-K, or early elementary classroom.
• Strong understanding of early childhood development and Kindergarten readiness expectations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain consistent routines.
• Experience developing and implementing lesson plans.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to assess student development and differentiate instruction.
• A warm, patient, professional approach to working with children and families.
• Ability to meet Tennessee childcare licensing and background screening requirements.
• Must have a high school diploma, high education is preferred

Preferred:

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent early childhood training.
• Experience teaching 4- and 5-year-old children preparing to enter Kindergarten.
• Familiarity with early literacy, phonological awareness, and foundational math instruction.
• Experience conducting developmental assessments and communicating student progress to families.
