The Grades Teacher is the class teacher for one grade in our grades program, carrying
a class through the main lesson curriculum and, in the Waldorf tradition, ideally
accompanying the children over multiple years. The class teacher holds the daily and
seasonal rhythm of the class, knows each child deeply, and serves as the primary
point of connection between the school and the class's families.

This teacher works as part of a collaborative faculty, partnering with subject teachers,
early childhood colleagues, and administration to bring the foundational and

evolving Waldorf curriculum to life. We are looking for someone who brings joy,
creativity, innovation, cultural-sensitivity and skill to the classroom, builds warm,
trusting relationships with children and families of every background, and is
committed to their own ongoing growth as an educator.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum
  • Plan and teach the morning lesson curriculum and assigned practice periods,

drawing on the foundational and evolving Waldorf curriculum for the grade.

  • Establish a healthy daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythm that supports each
child's learning, movement, and well-being.
  • Maintain effective, warm, and consistent classroom leadership, in line with the
school's behavior and community agreements.
  • Ensure a diversity of perspectives is included in the curriculum.
  • Observe and assess each child's progress, and write thoughtful reports.
  • Keep the classroom and surrounding areas a beautiful, orderly, and
welcoming learning environment.
Families and Community
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with parents and guardians, including

class meetings, parent-teacher conferences, written updates and phone calls.

  • Build trusting partnerships with families from a wide range of cultures,
languages, family structures, and life experiences.
  • Participate in school festivals, assemblies, admissions events, and community
gatherings.
Faculty Collaboration and Professional Growth
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings, in-service days, and other scheduled

meetings, and contribute to committee work.

  • Collaborate with subject teachers, learning support, and administration in
support of each child.
  • Engage in mentoring, evaluation, and ongoing professional development,
including growth in equity-centered and culturally responsive teaching
practice.
  • Uphold school policies, including child-safety, mandated-reporter, and
employee-student boundary requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of completion in Waldorf teacher training, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous Waldorf class teaching experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

We are looking for someone who brings
• Enthusiasm and joy for Waldorf teaching, paired with effective classroom

management skills. Knowledge of the Responsive Classroom model is a plus.

  • Experience teaching structured literacy with programs like UFLI, Wilson,
Fundations or other.
  • Confidence in, and inspiration from, the foundational and evolving Waldorf
curriculum.
  • The ability to work supportively and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Positive, clear, and effective communication with families and colleagues.
  • Cultural competency and confidence working with families and colleagues of
diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to growing professionally as our
community moves in an ever more just and equitable direction.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth.

Our Commitment to Inclusion and Belonging
At Marin Waldorf School, we believe that every child and adult in our community
should feel seen, welcomed, and valued. We are committed to broadening access to
Waldorf education, and we ask every member of our faculty and staff to share

thrive.

We warmly encourage applications from people of color, from individuals of
historically underrepresented and marginalized communities, and from candidates
whose backgrounds and life experiences differ from those currently represented at
our school. If you are excited about this role but your experience does not match
every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.

placed according to teaching experience. Benefits include medical, dental insurance,
as well as tuition remission for eligible children of faculty.
