The Childcare Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Childcare to support the daily operations, administration, and continued development of CCMRD Childcare programs. This position provides leadership and support to childcare staff, assists with program planning and scheduling, and helps ensure a safe, welcoming, engaging, and high-quality environment for children and families.

The Childcare Assistant Director serves as a key point of support for staff, parents, and guardians and assists with maintaining compliance with applicable state licensing requirements and CCMRD policies and procedures. This position also contributes to curriculum development, staff training, program improvement, and the overall success of CCMRD Childcare programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Collaborates with the Director of Childcare to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive childcare programming for children in structured and unstructured settings, including but not limited to Summer Camp, School Break Camps, Toddler Time, and Before/After School Care.
  • Plans and implements field trips, recreational activities, enrichment opportunities, and special programming that meet the developmental needs and interest of participating children.
  • Assists Director of Childcare with ensuring compliance with all applicable state licensing requirements, regulations, and CCMRD policies and procedures.
  • Provides direct classroom and program support during Summer Camp, School Break Camps, Toddler Time, Before/After School, and other childcare programming as needed.
  • Stays current with industry knowledge and practices for childcare operations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of childcare industry standards, licensing requirements, and best practices.
  • Supports and upholds program quality standards that address the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of participating children.
  • Partners with the Director of Childcare to maintain consistent, professional, and timely communication with parents and guardians regarding childcare programs, participant needs, schedules, policies, and concerns.
  • Assists the Director of Childcare with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, supervising, coaching, and evaluating part-time childcare staff.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining staff schedules for Summer Camp, Before/After School Care, Toddler Time, School Break Camps, and other childcare programs to support appropriate staffing and program coverage.
  • Develops and implements staff development opportunities for childcare employees in accordance with applicable licensing and training requirements.
  • Completes and maintains all annual professional development and training hours required by applicable childcare licensing regulations.
  • Plans and implements engaging, educational, safe, and age-appropriate childcare programming, including the development of monthly planning calendars, activities, and curriculum.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Childcare in developing, managing, and monitoring the annual Childcare budget and assists with responsible use of program supplies and resources.
  • Assists the Director of Childcare with marketing efforts for childcare programs and offerings by providing timely and accurate information for newsletters, social media, flyers, and other promotional materials.
  • Contributes to organizational planning, problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement efforts related to childcare programs and District operations.
  • Attends community events as a CCMRD representative to promote CCMRD Childcare programs and other District offerings.
  • Ensures required program records, including attendance records, participant information, staff documentation, and other required records, are accurate, appropriately maintained, secured, and handled confidentially.
  • Protects the confidentiality and privacy of childcare participants and their families in accordance with CCMRD policies and applicable requirements.
  • Follows all mandatory reporting requirements and reports suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable law, licensing requirements, and CCMRD procedures.
  • Assists with addressing routine participant behavior concerns, parent/guardian concerns, staffing needs, and day-to-day operational issues, escalating significant concerns to the Director of Childcare or appropriate District leadership.
  • Serves as a point of leadership and operational support for childcare staff when the Director of Childcare is unavailable or as assigned.
  • Contributes to Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts based on operational needs, qualifications, and availability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of CCMRD operations and its mission to strengthen our community through fitness, wellness, and play.

SPAN OF SUPERVISION

  • Reports to the Director of Childcare
  • Supervises Childcare staff (leads, aides, and camp counselors)

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The Childcare Assistant Director must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and meet one (1) of the following qualification pathways:

  • Possess a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university and have at least nine (9) months (1,365 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children under eight (8) years of age who are not related to the individual. The verified experience must have been in the role of an Early Childhood Teacher; or
  • Have completed at least five (5) Early Childhood Education courses required for Director qualifications, including:
  • Administration of Early Childhood Care and Education Programs; and
  • Administration: Human Relations for Early Childhood Education or Introduction to Business;and have at least nine (9) months (1,365 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children under eight (8) years of age who are not related to the individual. The verified experience must have been in the role of an Early Childhood Teacher. All applicable coursework must have a grade of “C” or better; or
  • Possess a current Director qualification letter/certificate issued by the Department. No additional experience is required under this pathway.
  • Director-qualified candidates are preferred. Candidates who are not currently Director-qualified must demonstrate the willingness and ability to obtain Director qualifications within six (6) months of hire.
  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the safety, development, care, inclusion, and well-being of children.
  • Have experience working with children and the ability to appropriately guide, supervise, and support program participants.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable childcare regulations, procedures, policies, licensing requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to supervise, coach, train and support employees.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication, organizational, problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to respond professionally and appropriately to challenging, sensitive, or emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize responsibilities, and collaborate effectively with the Director of Childcare and other CCMRD staff.
  • Be proficient with computers and commonly used workplace software and systems.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and meet CCMRD requirements for driving as part of assigned job duties.
  • Successfully complete and maintain all required background checks and clearances, including applicable child protection and criminal background requirements.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications and any additional certifications or training required by applicable childcare licensing regulations.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to maintain alertness, sound judgment, patience, professionalism, and attention to detail throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work effectively in active childcare and office environments where noise, interruptions, and changing priorities , and interaction with children and families are common.
  • Ability to actively supervise children and respond promptly and appropriately to behavioral concerns, safety concerns, injuries, and emergency situations.
  • Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor childcare activities, field trips, recreational activities, and other program functions as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel ,reach, and move throughout childcare and recreational environments as necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, move, or assist with equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with children, families, employees, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and appropriate attention to participant safety.

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
