Assistant Teacher – Early Childhood Education

Job Type: Full-time / Part-time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with shifts scheduled between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Work Location: In person
Starting Pay: $16.00/hour, based on experience and qualifications

Future Kids Academy is seeking a caring, dependable, patient, and enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood education team.

Position Summary

The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher and childcare team to support children's learning, development, safety, and daily care.

The ideal candidate is dependable, energetic, patient, responsible, and comfortable working in an active classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom activities and lesson implementation.
  • Support circle time, literacy, STEM, arts and crafts, music, movement, and hands-on activities.
  • Help maintain a positive, organized, engaging, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Supervise and interact with children throughout the day.
  • Encourage children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.
  • Assist children with meals, snacks, handwashing, toileting, dressing, and other daily routines as needed.
  • Support outdoor play, classroom transitions, and daily activities.
  • Help maintain required staff-to-child ratios.
  • Follow Florida DCF health, safety, and childcare requirements.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, cleaning, sanitizing, and organization.
  • Observe children and communicate relevant developmental or behavioral concerns to the Lead Teacher.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and other members of the childcare team.
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for every child.
  • Follow center policies and procedures at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred/required according to applicable position requirements.
  • Florida 45-Hour DCF Child Care Training certification required.
  • Previous childcare, preschool, education, or babysitting experience preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain/renew.
  • Patient, dependable, responsible, and enthusiastic.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Enjoys working with young children and supporting their development.
  • English proficiency required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Must successfully pass required Local and Federal (FDLE) Level 2 Background Screening.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to work effectively in an active childcare environment and:

  • Frequently stand and walk for more than 50% of the workday.
  • Bend, squat, kneel, stoop, and sit or work at children's eye level.
  • Perform repetitive or fine hand movements as needed.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to children's needs and safety concerns.
  • Multitask effectively in a busy, energetic, and sometimes loud environment.
