Assistant Teacher – CNA/HHA Experience Preferred

About the Position

Wonderland School is seeking a caring, dependable, energetic Classroom Teacher to lead a classroom and follow the school’s established curriculum.

We are especially interested in candidates who have previous experience as a teacher, assistant teacher, preschool teacher, paraprofessional, or childcare professional and who also have CNA or HHA training or healthcare experience.

This is a teaching position. The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing the curriculum, leading classroom activities, maintaining an organized learning environment, monitoring student progress, and helping students grow academically, socially, and developmentally.

Primary Responsibilities

• Follow and implement Wonderland School’s established curriculum.
• Prepare and teach daily lessons and educational activities based on the curriculum.
• Lead the classroom and maintain a structured, positive, and engaging learning environment.
• Provide age-appropriate instruction to students.
• Conduct reading, writing, math, science, art, developmental, and enrichment activities as required by the curriculum.
• Prepare classroom materials and activities.
• Monitor and document student participation, progress, strengths, and areas needing additional support.
• Provide individualized assistance to students when needed.
• Maintain appropriate classroom routines, schedules, and behavior expectations.
• Encourage communication, independence, social interaction, and developmental growth.
• Supervise students throughout the school day.
• Communicate professionally with parents, administration, and other members of the team.
• Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, healthcare staff, and other professionals when appropriate.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming classroom.
• Follow all school policies, procedures, safety requirements, and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Teacher, Assistant Teacher, Preschool Teacher, Teacher Aide, Paraprofessional, or similar educational position.
• Experience following and implementing a structured curriculum.
• Experience working with children is required.
• CNA certification, HHA training, or previous healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with children with special needs, developmental disabilities, or medical needs is highly preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Early childhood education, education coursework, CDA, or related credentials are preferred.
• Must be dependable, patient, compassionate, organized, energetic, and comfortable leading a classroom.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

The ideal candidate is someone who considers herself a teacher first but also has the confidence and experience to work with children who may have additional medical, developmental, or special needs.
