Assistant Daycare Center Director

The Colonie Youth Center (CYC) is seeking a dependable, enthusiastic, and organized Assistant Daycare Center Director to join the leadership team at our Little Sprouts at Shaker Place program.

The Assistant Director works closely with the Center Director to support the day-to-day operation of the center, including staff supervision, classroom support, family communication, enrollment, recordkeeping, and licensing compliance. The Assistant Director also helps ensure that children receive high-quality care in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment.

We’re looking for someone who is ready to take on a leadership role, can confidently support staff, and isn’t afraid to jump in wherever needed. The right candidate will be organized, approachable, dependable, and able to help keep the center running smoothly in a fast-paced childcare environment.

What You’ll Do

• Work closely with the Center Director to support the daily operations of the childcare center
• Assist with supervising, coaching, and supporting center staff
• Help coordinate staff schedules and maintain appropriate staffing and child-to-staff ratios
• Provide classroom coverage and hands-on support when needed
• Assist with onboarding, training, and supporting new employees
• Help ensure compliance with all applicable New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations and CYC policies
• Maintain accurate child, staff, training, health, safety, and licensing records
• Monitor classrooms and support staff in providing high-quality, developmentally appropriate programming
• Help ensure the health, safety, and appropriate supervision of all children
• Build positive relationships with parents and guardians and assist with questions or concerns
• Support enrollment, attendance, classroom transitions, and other administrative responsibilities
• Monitor staff training, certifications, and compliance requirements
• Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming center environment
• Assist with incidents, behavioral concerns, staffing challenges, and other day-to-day center needs
• Help prepare the center for licensing visits, inspections, and program reviews
• Communicate regularly with the Center Director and CYC leadership regarding program needs and concerns
• Serve as a leadership presence within the center and support staff with questions, challenges, and daily decision-making
• Assume responsibility for center operations in the Center Director’s absence, as appropriate
• Help foster a positive workplace culture built on teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and respect

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a childcare professional who has experience working with children and is ready to grow as a leader.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working in a child day care center, family or group family day care home, or other early childhood program
• Previous leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience preferred
• Education and/or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy childcare environment
• Confidence supporting staff and handling difficult conversations when needed
• Knowledge of child development, health and safety practices, and positive behavior guidance
• A willingness to step into classrooms and provide hands-on support when needed
• A dependable, professional, and team-oriented approach
• The ability to take initiative while also working collaboratively with the Center Director and CYC leadership
• The ability to meet all applicable requirements for the position under New York State childcare regulations
• The ability to successfully complete all required background checks, clearances, trainings, and certifications

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
